Abstracts and Speaker Bio’s (in no particular order!)

 1.      Overview of DB2 V9 to V10 Migration process on z/OS

The objective of this document is to describe the steps which need to be followed by DB2 Systems DBA , DB2 DBA and Application Team for migration from V9 to V10. This document provides the following recommended reports via running job DSNTIJPM against the current DB2 9 for z/OS LPARs . These reports will identify areas where adjustments will be required, either at the application level or the system level, in order to be compatible with DB2 10 for z/OS.  Addressing the issues will make the transition smoother

Speaker : Vasudeva Rao Chitteboyina (Vasu) @ IBM

Vasu is currently working as a DB2 DBA and an IMS DBA on z/OS and he has been working in IBM India close to completion of 9 years. He has overall 12+ years of experience on Mainframes and has imparted several training programs for Graduate Hires on skills COBOL JCL VSAM DB2 CICS and PL1 within IBM India and also across a different Geography - IBM Chengdu China Delivery Center. He has participated in many Organizational initiatives and is an active member of Enterprise Computing in IBM University Relations group which aims in promoting IBM Mainframe skill in Universities across India

2.      Performance and Statistical Analysis of DB2 for Z/OS using SMF

Performance tuning is the need of the hour especially on databases like DB2 on z/OS which usually hosts terabytes of data. Explain utility provides information on access path, performance report in terms of CPU service units consumed etc., Application performance information can be obtained from the SMF reports by running the DB2 accounting and statistics trace. Statistics trace provides details about the number of DML operations, buffer pool utilization in terms of get-pages etc. whereas the accounting trace provides the CPU consumption, I/O details and wait time.

Speaker : Thanuja Guruprasad Rao, Latha Sadanandam, Swetha M Rao, Sagar Gupta, Infosys Limited

 3.      “DB2 10 Security – RCAC Features”  for this user conference.

In this session, I plan to cover followings:

-          Business needs for DB Security

-          Overview of different security features available in DB2

-          Deep dive in Row Level Permission & Column Masking features of DB2 10

-          Usage scenarios with examples

Speaker  :  Pradeep Naik @ Wipro

4.      What's new from IBM DB2 Labs

Insight into what's cooking new in DB2 labs for example, we have made some significant improvements in pureScale technology and also support JSON in DB2.

Speaker  :  ? @ IBM

5.      Acheiving redundancy and reduction of storage costs through HADR and Compression mechanism

The session will mainly comprise of setting up of HADR,new features of v 10.1, various modes of HADR,best practices and its restrictions. On the compression part it will on types of compression mechanisms in db2 v 10.1 and few observations on the types of compression mechanisms which was tested as a part of my work nature.

6.      DBA Experiences with Replication

This Presentation provides a very good insight to the Replication (HADR) features along with the TSA in DB2, LUW.   We will start with the basis of the HADR features and slowly move to 99.9999% availability, features, using TSA.   We will be dealing with step by step approach of configuring the HADR across active / standby servers, along with TSA configuration. TSA configuration represents High availability, clustering of the servers in case of any hardware / software failure and automatic switchover.

We had implemented this in our new client, XXXXX, Australian Retail Company.  The Client was very much happy to see the features of the DB2 HADR / TSA, during the DR drill and has much appreciated the team’s effort, as it was one of the basis requirement of the client.
