Stuck at home and trying to stay heathy got me thinking about fruit smoothies. It sounds like a good idea until you start making one and realize there are lots of ingredients that all need to be prepared. It got me thinking, how some of my client’s data infrastructures are kind of like making a fruit smoothie – lots of effort is needed to blend different components together to get a good result.9524608485?profile=original

According to a recent Forrester survey sponsored by IBM, the top technical challenges when analyzing data are 1) integrating multiple sources of data, 2) dealing with large data volumes, 3) the time to assemble data and 4) integrating multiple data formats effectively.

If you’re extracting and moving data to another infrastructure, processing it and manually manipulating it to generate insight, then Forrester and IBM may have an answer for you.

Check out http://ibm.biz/Db2DataGate Timely, cloud access to Db2 for z/OS data without accessing Db2 for z/OS.

Reduce the cost of mission critical workloads. Simplify data delivery for new cloud, analytics and mobile applications with improved data currency. Drive greater value from IBM Z.

IBM Db2 Data Gate provides an integrated, resilient, standardized approach, designed to be more reliable, less complex and less expensive than customized solutions. It supports applications that require read-only access to Db2 for z/OS data.

Db2 Data Gate provides an end-to-end solution to ensure that data is available and synchronized from sources on IBM Z to targets optimized on IBM Cloud Pak for Data.

Instead of accessing data in the IBM Z data source directly, an application accesses a synchronized copy of the Db2 for z/OS data, hosted by a separate system.

With all the hype around new technology, cloud platforms and development approaches, you might be wondering how IBM Z and the transactional data that resides on it fit into this changing landscape. Read the new IBM Z e-Book

The optimal position for today’s IT organization is to be a full-fledged partner with lines of business to drive revenue and deliver on an organization’s strategy. IT organizations need to modernize. This means there is an opportunity for your organization to bring IBM Z into your broader hybrid cloud approach.

Many organizations say they want to modernize and transform. To transform requires agility and agility is a continuous process. You need technology that can continuously adapt to new business requirements and IT methodology.

IBM Z has proven to be adaptable throughout its history and continues to introduce new capabilities to support your most critical engagement, analytics and AI applications. That includes support for your hybrid cloud infrastructure.  New capabilities demonstrate that, just like you, IBM is continuing to invest in IBM Z  -- a vibrant, adaptable platform that you can depend on to differentiate your organization.

IBM Z is the most resilient platform available for your core transactional systems and now offers integration with IBM Cloud Pak for Data™, IBM’s strategic platform for Data and AI. This integration means you can readily take advantage of your IBM Z data and resources as part of an integrated data and AI platform to modernize the way you collect, organize and analyze data and infuse AI throughout your organization.

Your IBM Z infrastructure investment holds significant value and can help your organization deliver continued business differentiation. Some may say that IBM Z and hybrid cloud is an unconventional combination. However, to paraphrase John Maynard Keynes, to succeed, sometimes it is necessary to do so unconventionally rather than be like everyone else and perform conventionally. IBM understands this and offers the differentiated organization a differentiated set of platforms.

I welcome you to read a new e-Book:  Leveraging IBM Z for a hybrid cloud world to learn how IBM Z IBM Z and IBM Cloud Pak for Data can complement and extend your existing and future hybrid cloud environment.

Does your organization still separate systems of record from modern systems of engagement? Do you use the standard architectural pattern of replicating data from its point of origin? You probably know actions based on replicated data can never be truly real time and can be sub-optimal. Leveraging data virtualization technology can support greater flexibility and agility which is core to modernization efforts.

Data virtualization has emerged as an exciting, cost effective, substitute for, and augmentation to, traditional data collection (incremental copy, data movement and ETL). You can access data where it originates reduce the time and resources used to combine data from multiple systems. Less time and resources can translate into savings.
