We started 2021 with high expectations of a relatively better year in terms of Covid-19 restrictions. And it was, as vaccinations ramped up, albeit in the second half of the year. However, not enough to bring life back to complete normality. Like everyone else, IDUG had to make the difficult decision to convert the planned face-to-face IDUG EMEA conference in Edinburgh to a virtual one. The risks for an onsite conference were just too high. And once again, our volunteers adapted and stepped up, and together with the support from our vendors, we had a very successful virtual conference. We had almost 750 attendees from 40 countries on 6 continents. A big thank you to all our volunteers, sponsors, speakers, and attendees for supporting IDUG.
2022 – as with every new year we start listing all our resolutions, full of positivity, with new goals and dreams. I, too, started the new year very positively, with a positive Covid-19 test on January 1st 2022! It’s fine I told myself. I was lucky to have caught the milder, flu like variant, thinking of those who had sadly suffered much more in the previous variants. And even though I would have to isolate, I had family just in the next room! Never has having Zoom calls with family members residing under one roof felt stranger.
I am very excited about this year. I am confident that with your help, IDUG will embrace 2022 with actionable in-person plans and events. Here are a couple of highlights:
